President George turned the meeting over to Student Speaker Chairman Joe Farrah. The only speaker this year was Daly City resident Chloe Lessard, a sophomore from Mercy High School. Chloe spoke well on the topic “Water - Will California be Left High & Dry?” She was awarded a $50 check, a plaque acquired by George Salet, and a framed Certificate of Participation. Photographs were taken. She was accompanied by her father and her coach, Gail Chastain. Chloe automatically advances to the Zone 3 runoff taking place at Mercy High School, Room 209, Wednesday, March 11th, 7 P.M. Judging the contest were retired educators Maurice Fitzgerald and Enrico Micheli, and Toastmaster Frank Gelini. All three of these judges were Joe Farrah’s schoolmates at Balboa High School, and all four of these men were in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
